How hyperbaric therapy supports healing.

Inside the Oxyhelp® capsule you breathe in an oxygen-enriched environment at increased pressure (2 bar). According to Henry's Law, the amount of oxygen dissolved directly into the plasma rises significantly, reaching tissues with reduced vascularisation, where red blood cells alone cannot carry enough oxygen. This mechanism supports cellular regeneration, the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) and the functioning of the immune system.

In specialised centres, including CryoMedica, hyperbaric oxygenation is used as a complementary method in the recovery of several categories of conditions. The list below follows the classification used in clinical protocols, each category with its own mechanisms and examples.

01 · Chronic wounds and diabetic ulcers

Wounds that heal slowly.

One of the most documented uses of hyperbaric therapy is the treatment of chronic wounds. In patients with diabetes, reduced blood circulation can lead to chronic wounds (particularly in the lower limbs); the lack of oxygen at tissue level slows healing. Hyperbaric oxygenation is used as a complementary treatment in diabetic foot ulcers and in other wounds that are difficult to heal.

Support for the immune system.

Oxygen plays an important role in the functioning of the immune system. High oxygen concentrations can improve the activity of white blood cells and can inhibit the development of certain anaerobic bacteria. Hyperbaric oxygenation is used as a complementary treatment in certain severe infections, alongside antibiotics and surgical interventions.

03 · Recovery after surgical procedures

Post-operative healing.

After a surgical procedure, the body needs oxygen to support tissue regeneration processes. By raising oxygen levels at tissue level, hyperbaric oxygenation is used in post-operative recovery programmes at certain medical centres, including for reducing oedema after aesthetic surgery.

Hyperbaric oxygenation can be used in recovery after musculoskeletal trauma, slow-healing fractures and bone infections (osteomyelitis). By improving tissue oxygenation and reducing inflammation, the therapy supports the physical recovery process, both in soft tissue and in bone tissue. For bone tissue conditions we recommend a more extensive course (40–60 hours).

05 · Neurological conditions

Support in neurological recovery.

Adequate brain oxygenation is essential for the functioning of the nervous system. Hyperbaric oxygenation is used as a supportive method in recovery after neurological events. The 2.0 ATA protocol is the one used in the studies at the Sagol Center (Israel, Efrati et al.), where positive effects were documented in neuroplasticity and in "awakening" the dormant metabolic neurons in the ischaemic penumbra.

06 · Circulatory conditions

Microcirculation and local oxygenation.

In certain situations, reduced blood circulation limits the amount of oxygen reaching the tissues: peripheral ischaemia, vascular lesions, chronic circulatory complications. By saturating the blood plasma at 2 bar, oxygen reaches the tissues independently of transport through haemoglobin.

In sports medicine, hyperbaric oxygenation is used for recovery after intense effort or injuries.
